Embracing the Art of Mediation
Embracing the Art of Mediation
I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about my background and the meaningful work I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of in the field of mediation and arbitration. My name is Stan Heston, and my journey has been quite an adventure over the last 40 years.
For much of my career, I worked as a Corporate Contract Negotiator for several Fortune 500 companies in New York. This fast-paced and dynamic environment taught me invaluable lessons about negotiation and the importance of constructive dialogue. In 1985, I took a leap of faith and founded my own company, Heston Container. Over the years, we navigated many challenges and celebrated numerous successes until I decided to sell the business in 2013.
That transition marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With my experience in negotiations, I naturally gravitated toward mediation and arbitration, recognizing that I could help others find a resolution to their conflicts. Starting my mediation practice has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to utilize my skills while making a positive impact on people's lives.
One of the highlights of my work is the pro bono mediation I provide each month at the Dallas County ADR Center, particularly in areas such as family law and debt collection disputes. The purpose of the Dallas County Dispute Resolution Center (DCDRC) is to serve the residents of Dallas County by offering them an affordable alternative to resolving disputes. The opportunity to help people navigate their differences and find common ground—whether in negotiations related to family matters or conflicts over debt— is truly humbling. Each session reinforces my belief in the power of communication and collaboration within the justice court system.
Reflecting on my experiences, I am deeply grateful for the relationships and situations that have shaped my journey. This profession allows me to be present during some of the most significant moments in people's lives, often assisting them in achieving fair outcomes in family law and debt collection cases. I am continually inspired by their resilience and commitment to finding resolution amid conflict.
As I look ahead, I am excited to continue this important work, contributing to a more just and cooperative society. Thank you for being part of my journey, and I look forward to sharing more insights and experiences with you in the future.
Regards,
Stan Heston
